History of the Dayboro RSL Subbranch in QueenslandCategories» About UsNewsMembershipAdvocacy and Wellbeing ServicesUpcoming and Past Events » All Pages Published12th November 2021 The Dayboro RSL was originally formed in 1926 by Veterans who had served in World War I. Unfortunately, as time passed membership within the RSL dwindled, resulting in the Subbranch ceasing operations 1943. An expression of interest from ex-servicemen and women was made around 2011—2012 to reform an RSL in Dayboro. Interest was such that a Chapter was formed under the sponsorship of the Bray Park-Strathpine RSL Subbranch with the first permanent President being appointed in May 2012. It took until the 28th of August 2015 for the local Subbranch to become a fully fledged RSL Subbranch in its own right when it was incorporated and welcomed into the Brisbane North District of the State Branch. Current membership is 36 and growing. Meetings and Events While the Subbranch currently does not have a permanent facility which it can call home, meetings and other events are held in any suitable venue. Extensive use is also made of such platforms as Zoom to conduct meetings or to reach out to families and others in need. Buildings do not make our Subbranch. What we pride ourselves on is our ability to reach out and travel to where the need is. Regular Fund raising is carried out with Sausage Sizzles at the Brendale Bunnings and other community functions as well as Badge and Memorabilia Sales. There is also regular coffee mornings held on the fourth Wednesday of every month and these serve as a great opportunity to do welfare checks on one another as well as catch up on the local news and gossip. It is one of the long term goals of the subbranch to have a permanent home, and we continue to work towards that end. However, the needs and support of Veterans will always take precedence over the acquisition of real estate. Dayboro is a “doing” Subbranch whose mission is to support Veterans and their families in our local community. Why not become involved. Contact our Secretary and find out how.
